A Science Fiction genre Knowledge Organiser, based on a range of key conventions and motifs in Science Fiction writing. Can be used in Key Stage 3 and middle school in conjunction with the reading of Iron Man by Ted Hughes. Key vocabulary linked to reading and conventions which can be front loaded with students as pre-reading material. Making our British curriculum more accessible for EAL and ESL students by embedding key vocabulary and knowledge into the curriculum planning to support their language acquisition.
The Knowledge Organiser is structured into three key areas: context, content and concepts. Use this to consolidate understanding of important contextual detail that influences the genre; explore the plot through the key characters with useful quotations highlighted and reinforce key concepts that allow a deeper appreciation of the themes and considerations in the Iron Man novella and a range of different Science Fiction texts. Tier 3 Terminology and Tier 2 Vocabulary lists accompany this unit.
